Strategies include:

Prevent logging of habitats

  • refrain from logging habitats on local government lands
  • limit tree cutting on private lands under local government jurisdiction.
  • prevent the logging of important habitats through the subdivision and development permitting processes.

Maintain abundant leaf litter and large woody debris in habitats

  • refrain from removing large woody debris and leaves from habitats on local government lands.
  • add large woody debris to forested or recently planted areas on local government lands where it is lacking.
  • prevent the removal of large woody debris and leaves from sensitive habitats on private lands using development permit area restrictions or a landscaping and screening bylaw.
  • encourage private landowners to retain leaf litter and large woody debris through public education materials and programming.
